Måns Jansson and Jacob Orrje have been awarded funding for from the Swedish Research Council for the project "The Administrative Life of Environmental Problems: Governing Material Flows in the Swedish Metal Industry 1750–1900" (2027–29)
On 20 April 2026, Orrje and Jansson participated at a workshop at Jernkontoret in Stockholm for discussing environmental history of mining and metal making.
On 25 October 2025, Orrje presented the draft paper: "Datamining the Swedish Bureau of Mines: Experiments with distant reading in an early modern administrative archive", analyzing the minutes and travelogues of the Bureau of Mines using LLM:s and text-mining methods.
On the 27–30 March 2025, Orrje presented his paper "Subterranean Supervision. Codification of Miners’ Techniques in the Bergskollegium, 1620–1750" at the workshop "Knowing in Action", arranged by Simon Schaffer (Cambridge) and Lissa Roberts (Twente).
On the 26 February 2025, Orrje presented our digital work with HTR at the course "Paleography and AI" at Gothenburg University.
At the 6th Digital History in Sweden Conference, Orrje presented the on-going work in the project as part of his conference keynote.
On 26 September 2024, 13:15–15:00 the project arranged a workshop at the Department of History and Ideas at Uppsala University together with international guests from the SCARCE project at the university of Vienna.
Together with visitors from the SCARCE project at Vienna, the project visited the Sala Silver Mine. With the help of a tour guide, we descended the mine, reliving experiences of early modern mining workers and officials, while discussing pertinent research topics related to state-of-the-art mining and metal making history.
On the 12–14 June 2024, the project arranged a session at the The History of Technology and Science Days 2024 in Stockholm on ”The geographies of mining knowledge in early modern Swedish state making”.
On 21 May 2022, Jacob Orrje presented the project's digital methodology at the Uppsala Image Analysis Day at the Department of Information Technology – especially region and line segmentation and handwritten-text recognition and text annotation.
