Technik or Technologie? European Circulation of Bélidor’s, Wolff’s and Gessner’s Technological Works

On 30 November – 1 December, Jacob Orrje was invited to the workshop "Technik or Technologie? European Circulation of Bélidor’s, Wolff’s and Gessner’s Technological Works" at Université Paris City.

Inviting speakers representing a range of disciplines, this one-day symposium analyses the foundations of Wolff’s and Beckmann’s technological thought, whilst also highlighting for the first time the role of Gessner – a missing link in the early history of technology – at a time when the very term ‘technology’ had not yet become established and was interchangeable with ‘Technik’.

Orrje's presentation focused on the mathematician and agricultural reformed Anders Gabriel Duhre, how it picked up on Wolff's works on agriculture, and how it was transformed through the environment within the Bureau of Mines, the political cultulture in Age-of-Liberty Stockholm, and the rural community outside of Uppsala.
