On Monday 16 May, from 10.15 am to 4 pm, the project "Mapping the geographies of early modern mining knowledge. A digital history of the study tours of the Swedish Bureau of Mines, 1691–1826" is hosting a workshop on the transcription of early modern Swedish manuscripts using automatic handwriting recognition (HTR).

During the day, we will learn the basics of the Transkribus tool together, whilst working on some of the handwritten travel accounts included in the project. Everyone is welcome – for example, students who want to improve their ability to read older handwriting, or researchers who are curious about how this type of digital tool can be integrated into historical research.

We’ll meet in the Rausing Room at the Department of History of Ideas and Sciences in Engelska Parken between 10.15 and 16.00, with a break for lunch. If you’re unable to attend for the whole day, you’re of course very welcome to join us for just the morning or afternoon. Afterwards (i.e. from 4.00 pm), anyone interested is welcome to join us at Williams for drinks.
