give the Preference to this new Sweedish Ordnance, or their Number of Cannon of
equal weight of Metal will stand them in little Stead. But if it should so fall
out that from the greater Toughness, and Malleability of the Metal, a lesser quantity
should answer the Purpose as effectually on Ship-board as a greater Quantity of the
common, thus will be still a further Recommendation; and this seems reasonable
enough to prove the case.
With Respect to what is suggested in Relation to Bar-Iron and Steel, that is
the natural and apparent Consequence of the superior Quality of the Cast Iron in
general, & therefore needs no further Eclaireissement than what is set forth in the
Memorial.
There remains nothing further to be urged than a Specification of the
Conditions upon which this Discovery is propesed to be communicated for the sole
Benefit of the Kingdom of Sweden; which are as follow viz!
1. That the Memorialist will lay himself under the solemn obligation of
an Oath never to reveal the Secret to any Person or Persons whatsoever.
2. That to the Amount of £ 30.000 Sterling Money of England shall be
deposited in the Bank of England; which Sum shall be paid to the Memorialist
within One Month after the said Memorialist shall have given Proofs of the
Truth of his Discovery to whomsoever the King of Sweeden shall appoint to be
instructed in the same.
3. That the King of Sweeden shall send over proper Persons to England for
that Purpose; & that 20 Pieces of Cannon shall be cast at the Expence of the Crown
of Sweeden to evidence and manifest the Quality of the Metal, & that it fully
answers the Representation given thereof in the Memorial.
4 That a proper Number of able and reputed badges of the Quality of Iron,
chosen on both sides, shall be duely sworn to give their Opinions, if any Dispute
should arise; and if the Majority of the said sworn badges shall declare that
the Memorialist hath performed honestly and justly whel in set forth in the
Memorial, that then the said Sum of Thirty Thousand Pounds Sterling money
shall be immediately, or within one month, paid one of the Bank to the said
Memorialist, without any Dedications whatsoever.
5 That some Person or Persons shall be appointed by the Court of Sweeden
to enter into proper articles of agreement with the Memorialist, agreeably to the
Conditions aforesaid.
