A lost town and archaeological excavation site on the mountain of the same name between the Kreuztal district of Littfeld and the Hilchenbach district of Müsen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia. The name ‘Altenberg’ first appears in written records of the Siegerland region in a document dated 12 July 1290. Lead, silver and ores were already being mined here in the 12th century, and its long history only came to an end in 1965 with the filling of the machine shaft.
